Wazalendo savings and credit cooperative society joins the rest of the UPDF in greater Mbarara to participate in the army week activities ahead of the 42nd UPDF birthday due to take place on the 6th of February 2023.
Wazalendo is offering free training and sharing experiences with SACCOs identified by the respective District Commercial officers. WSACCO had earlier donated items worth 12.5m which included 10 delivery beds and 50 waste bins to be donated to hospitals in greater Mbarara hospitals that require such support.
The one-week training of other SACCOs commenced in the District of Kiruhura where three SACCOs namely Kiruhura Community Women’s SACCO, Kenshunga Standard Traders, and Rushere SACCOs benefited. The training will cover seven districts that form the Greater Mbarara including; Kiruhuura, Kazo, Ibanda, Isingiro, Rwampara, Mbarara city, and Mbarara District.
While opening the training in Kiruhura District at Kiruhura community women’s SACCO, the Chief Executive Officer of Wazalendo SACCO Col Joseph Freddy Onata said that offering free training is in furtherance of principle No 6 of the cooperatives “cooperation among Cooperators”.
Col Onata advised the SACCOs to desist from competition amongst themselves but instead engage each other in order to build that solidarity needed to help their communities become productive through savings mobilization.
Col Onata called upon Leaders and members to first understand the SACCO business model and pass the same understanding to their members.
The CEO also called upon the cooperators to avoid charging high-interest rates to the members as that will chase members back to commercial banks and defeat the welfare objective.
He advised leaders and managers to carefully strike a balance between the social mission of SACCO and the business objective.
